New fitness facility, Elevation Fitness and Health opens in Flemington, focuses on one-on-one training.
FLEMINGTON – Following his dream, Bridgewater resident Jeff Hazard has opened Elevation Fitness and Health at 30 Royal Road.
“If you do what you love and follow your passion you’ll never have to work,” said Hazard, owner. “I really enjoy people and I love fitness so I do what I really love.”
Before opening Elevation, Hazard had a 20-year career in information technology during which he coached high school and college athletes”I’ve always been involved in fitness — my brothers and sisters and I grew up always playing something,” he said. In his youth Hazard played a variety of sports including baseball, tennis and soccer. As an adult, he has competed in biathlons, soccer, auto racing and most recently powerlifting.
“Here in Flemington, we’re the only one that’s dedicated to one-on-one personal training and fitness,” said Hazard.
Elevation also focuses on nutrition and post-rehabilitation exercise. “I have a nutrition specialist available at Elevation,” said Hazard. “And while I am not a registered dietitian, I can give you guidance, point you to the right food, websites and do a calorie count.”
“It’s not always about working out, it’s about eating before, after and during the day and this applies to not only working out but also to what you do for a living or what you’re doing in business,” he added. “So it’s eating the right proteins, carbohydrates and fats.”
As far as post-rehabilitation for athletes goes, Hazard said his shop looks at the doctor’s report and then talks about and looks at the physical therapy report. “If someone has a chronic injury, we’ll look at it and diagnose it,” he said. “After you go through physical therapy, we’ll put you on a customized program.”
Hazard explained, “I had a high school basketball player who was languishing after a year — she tore her ACL — and was really just getting her confidence back so I customized a workout for her and now she’s back on the court.”
For one-on-one personal training, exercise sessions are typically a circuit that changes on a daily basis, and they are customized to the specific person, whether they are a collegiate athlete, high school student or a regular person off the street.
“Before we actually take membership, we do a health check and also do a baseline of seven exercises to gives us an idea of whether there are any imbalances or anything we need to look for, and from that, we’ll create a custom workout to fit you,” said Hazard.
“I can take a lacrosse kid and tweak a workout and make that as challenging as possible,” he added, “and yet I can take the average person and tweak that workout for them — either way, it carries over to the field, life or business.”
